To discover and ascertain the underground properties and Earth structure is a necessity imposed by the society. International and national projects accomplished in different areas of Romanian territory geological models or Earth depth structure ranging from couple of metres to dozens of kilometres. Along the time they evolved increasing in resolution and accuracy keeping the pace with technology and innovative ideas proposed by researcher communities. New models will be created on the base of the old ones using integration of available data. What is different? The different approach to the problem which is not proposing to analyze (process, interpret) the data and propose an individual model but rather integrating the results, resolve the discrepancies and ambiguities between the models and than propose a coherent national level unitary model that can be accessible via databases. The project gains value compared with previous tries when a project partner agreed to share his database of seismic studies of industrial exploration for hydrocarbons with the other consortium participants.
The general objective of the project represents the elaboration of bi- and three-dimension velocity distribution models for each major tectonic unit and a larger scale one available for the whole country territory. These models will be used as input for further complex geodynamic models with a direct impart in assessing the seismic hazard.
The specific objectives of the project are:
- analyses or shallow or deep seismic reflected or refracted data for each major tectonic unit; this will facilitate the seismic waves velocity heterogeneities identification and their association with active tectonic structures and local seismic energy accumulations
- analyses of deep seismic reflected or refracted data for each major tectonic unit and the existent model improvement through depth extensions
- constructing integrated seismic velocity distribution bi- and three-dimensional models fro each major tectonic unit and elaborating a country scale one (inexistent so far).
